Ninova NICR 660 Brew Unit won’t lock back in

After cleaning, my brew unit lever won’t lock into place. I’ve got the gear to the right place on the machine and the brew unit “fits” into place on the gear but the lever does not want to come down into the lock position.

Can anyone help? I feel like I’ve tried everything.

(Please excuse the quality of the pictures, but I’ve tried to show the two parts - maybe there is something I’m missing.
