Wet marc with new Jura E8

Wet pomace despite fine grind

Hello everyone,
I have now bought a week ago a new Jura E8 (EB).
Since the purchase I have diligently experimented with the grind and have now arrived taste at 2/6.
Nevertheless, I notice that in the pomace container already after an espresso or a cup of coffee, some water is contained and the pucks / coffee grounds is not nice and firm... but is sometimes mushy or crumbles into small pieces.
So far, I've read in various posts that this would be more a sign of an incorrect grind (or defective grinder). Or is the drainage valve perhaps defective?
Are there other reasons that cause similar behavior? Does the grinder need to "settle" first?
Thanks for your answers!

PS: The grinder was only ever adjusted during the grinding process.

Hello AlexRs, grind and grind quantity are crucial for solid Puk's.
grind = crystal sugar similar condition, grind quantity should hold the Puk min 1cm.
With two or three pulled coffee's from a new KVA can not expect that everything is immediately coherent.
But if you have already pulled 20 cups then everything should have its interaction and the pomace should be dry and firm.

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply.
I have now increased the amount of coffee from 8/10 to 10/10 and yes the Puk became firmer, but still not quite as stable. I have now noticed that probably liquid at the back of the Tresterbehälter (on the Jura E8 (EB) a rubber wall) flows into the container and softens the coffee grounds. During the rinsing process when the machine is switched on, water also runs into the coffee grounds container...
When tested in the store, this was not the case with this model type. I will now try it with other beans, vll then leads to a different result.

The matter is actually quite simple: Imagine you are playing in the sandbox or on the beach with sand and water:rolleyes: When does the water run faster through the sand that is in the sieve? With very fine or rather coarse sand (or gravel)? It is the same with the coffee pec in the brew group. Fine grind=slower return of residual coffee, coarse grind=fast run-off. If the tester then remains basically wet, the drainage valve is faulty.
You should play in the sandbox more often. wink.gif
