We have been using a Siemens EQ9 S500 for 2 years. The Brita filter supplied with the machine, we had not used so far, because we had made a few years ago with another machine with it no good experience (coffee tasted sour).

Now I decided without great expectations, the filter in the context of a descaling but times to use - and was positively surprised: the coffee tasted softer and rounder.

In addition, after descaling with the filter activated (hardness range 3 at 13.8 dH), a staggering 850 cups (otherwise only 250) were now displayed until the next descaling.

Well, I guess you can't take that cup figure too seriously, because after just one week it has shrunk to 440 cups at the moment - and we are only 2 people with normal coffee consumption. So let's see when the next descaling is actually due.

In any case, I'm thinking of continuing the "experiment with coffee filter cartridges" for a while longer and have already reordered Brita filters for this purpose. The unit price was around 7 euros at a cheap eBay dealer.

My consideration is to try in the future also times compatible cartridges of other manufacturers, which there are now numerous and which partly only half the cost. But do they have a comparable quality to Brita?

I have already researched myself and found that there are a lot of things play a role:

- Fit accuracy (some filters are to loosen and then float in the water tank, but also Brita
)- presence and quality of installed filter screens (so that no black activated carbon particles are washed into the water)
-

Not all alternatives have the insertion aid (knob on the top)-

some is reported,
I am not sure if all filters work with the combination of ion exchange resin and activated carbon

It's about alternatives for the Brita Intenza TZ70033 or TZ70003, in case that didn't come across clearly. happy.gif

I ask myself the same question.
The water hardness adjustment ring causes 2 additional holes to be released at the bottom for soft water setting A where water is sucked from the tank bypassing the filter, and one additional hole for B. At C all water is passed through filter.

I bought 1 liter granules for refilling and printed a lid to reseal sawn open and emptied cartridge after refilling. But I am not satisfied with the fit.

Is there no ready refillable empty cartridges?
On cheap alternatives I do not want to go out, have read in some reviews that there filtergranulat in coffee had come.

why not choose the option of not using a filter at all and instead descale once more often. Simply use a good alternative descaler such as ceragol Premium Descaler and you will save more than if you use a filter.

Well, this suggestion unfortunately misses the point of the question and does not help. Even if it was posted three times. ????

There are good reasons to use a filter. For me, it is that the taste of the coffee has changed for the better due to the softer water.

Since the original Siemens filter cartridges are expensive, cheaper alternatives should be found in this thread. These are either alternatives from third party manufacturers or filling up the original cartridges with granules yourself.

Another way to get filtered water more cheaply would be to use an external filter jug and fill the water filter with the water already filtered there. But the cartridge used is more convenient.

Hi everyone,

It's a shame that no alternative has yet been found in this context.
I also have a Siemens EQ 6 plus and I'm also bothered by the expensive price of these cartridges.

So far I haven't dared to try a cheaper third-party provider for the reasons mentioned above and was hoping to find an insider tip here.
