Tschibo Esperto brew group no longer goes in

Hello,
My Esperto was no longer making coffee properly, so I took the brew group out and cleaned everything. However, I think the fault lies elsewhere. When I tried to put the brew group back in, it didn't fit because the little white gear in the machine is not in the right position. Can anyone help me get this back into the original position so that I can start looking for the actual fault?
