Empty collection tray, recognition!

Hello
,how does the machine know when to empty the drip tray?
Does it do it via the red float in the bowl and a magnet?
Just wondering because the drip tray is full to the brim by the time the message comes and I have the sink on the other side of the kitchen and it is always a balancing act to empty it!Can the
indicator possibly be adjusted?
