I can't find error code 02 in the manual. What does it mean?

Error 2 indicates a problem with the grinder.

I have a PHILIPS 4000 SERIES MACHINE and twice last week I got error code 02. After some searching on the web I found this post. In my manual and with Philips customer service, it says it needs factory repair.

This is not really true...

02 error is indeed for the grinder. I took my machine apart and then dismantled the grinder assembly. It was full of over-ground coffee . I gave it a good dry cleaning as water could be detrimental to the grinder and reassembled everything and it is working fine now.

I did some quick math and I am right around the 20,000 coffees made with my machine. I also saw the the two ceramic grinder wheels were not as sharp as they might ave been when new. I was able to find these parts online for about 20 bucks each, replace both at the same time.

At the moment all is good and I will be changing the grinder wheels at a later date.

I hope this post is helpful.

So it happened again today, error code 02. I dismantled it again, totally cleaned the grinder unit and throughly dried it. I replaced the 2 ceramic grinder rings. I also noticed a high level of resistance in the rotation of the bottom grinder assembly, so I dismantled it and removed the bearings. The larger flat bearing moved with very little resistance but the smaller one on the bottom had more resistance than I thought it should. It is very close, if not the same, to a bearing for a skateboard wheel. I oiled it with some mineral oil for my razor. It is a sealed unit but some oil did seep in and it gained less rotational resistance.

The part numbers for the grinder bearings are HGB 6900RS for the smaller bottom one,

and HGB 342 35252 for the larger flatter bearing. I will be ordering both if I can find them.

I had the same error code. I have removed the grinder. I checked the brushes in the grinder's motor. Had to grind the brushes to have a flat surface. Reinstalled and working like charm.
Philips EP5361 machine.

I was able to solve this problem by cleaning the grinder.

There were too many beans in my grinder. Cleaned and done. Runs
