Brew unit wont reinsert

Hi
I hope some one can shed some light on this for me .
My wife removed the brew unit for cleaning and when she tried to reinsert it, it wouldnt go back in.
It looks like the drive for the brew unit is out of line with the slot on the brew unit .
The drive dog on the machine wont turn .
The brew unit drive seems free.
Has anybody had this issue and can it be reset
