Well, I have an older law degree, and I've had it for five years. I've never had any hygenic problems. Now I'm off vacation, drinking my coffee, which doesn't taste any different now. However, the machine did some work, so I cleaned it manually and saw maggots in horror. I don't even know which animals they're from.
For safety's sake, I also flushed, flushed, flushed now.
Insects can always crawl in somehow, somewhere, this has nothing to do with hygiene. It's just that I'd never known this was possible before.
Per se we wanted to change the automat anyway, because I personally am not so 100% satisfied with my model now. Then it's good to know how other machines are doing, although the article is a bit older
But since my machine is also older (was second hand, i.e. the machine is older than 5 years), I thought I'd comment here as well
