Hello,

I bought the Jura ENA 5 last week.
I had a question about the amount of water or the coffee strength.

The factory setting is the amount of water 55ml when I make a normal coffee. That means if I press and select a cup of coffee the machine makes me 55ml of coffee.
Because my cups have about 150ml I always have to press twice to get a cup full.

Now it says in the instructions from Jura that you can adjust the amount of water to the cup size.
This can be adjusted in the menu between 15 and 240 ml or manually with the eye of the quantity adjust.

Now my special question:
If I increase the amount of water e.g. from 55ml to about 140ml then the amount of beans will be increased at the same time ?
Because if the same amount of beans is used then the coffee will be a lot milder and more watery ?

Hopely you can help me there.

Hello,

The grinding quantity remains the same and does not change to the water quantity.
This means that if the coffee is to be 140ml but the coffee is to be just as strong/powerful, the grinding quantity must be set to "strong" in the menu or the Rotary Switch will turn to the right to strong.

If at 140ml the coffee is too weak for you but already aroma is strong I would use other espresso beans.

I have at the moment from Cafe Fausto a weak (Monaco and a strong one which I drink alternately.
Here I would order a tasting package me quite intensive strong aroma.

Thank you for the answer.

Has it also something to do with the grinding degree, I left it at work on medium, but you can also set it to fine or coarse.

Officially it says: light roasting = grind a little finer, dark roasting = grind a little coarser.

I personally don't think it's very suitable, because a dark espresso roast should also be finely ground, but then you very easily run the risk of it clogging at the brewing sieve of the Jura KVAs.

I only use strong espresso roasts in my Juras, have set the aroma to "strong" and the grind to the second finest level, for larger cups (from 140 ml) I always make a double cover to exhaust the maximum grind quantity.

Thanks also for the answer.

But what does "double reference" ?

The ENA has 3 levels at the grind, I have left these as set ex works on the middle one, so I don't think I do anything wrong at the beginning.
