The APCERL (Asociación de Productores de Café Ecológico Regional Larecaja) cooperative in the province of Larecaja is an ideal combination of a focus on nature and nature-friendly agriculture on the one hand and a social background on the other. In this very humid region near Madidi National Park, coffee is grown in partial shade. The aim of the cooperative is to save the region from the progression of soil cultivation, deforestation, erosion and the resulting social misery. Above all, the great biodiversity of the place is to be preserved. Coffee grows in the shade of many trees and shrubs and is not cultivated as a destructive monoculture.
