It is said that this coffee speciality originates from the plant that Captain Gabriel de Clieu brought to Guadeloupe. It is one of the most expensive coffees in the world due to the low quantity available, the very slow growth and the strict selection of beans. A good portion of the harvest goes to the coffee stronghold of Japan, which continues to drive the price. The beans come from the island's highest estate, the Gold Cup Estate, where the beans are grown at over 1,500 metres. The coffees are packed and shipped in wooden barrels of 35 and 70 kg.
