Alt Wien Thailand Pang Khon Catimor, 500 g

Alt Wien Thailand Pang Khon Catimor

Manufacturer product description

This exclusive local coffee comes from the north of Thailand, from the mountain village Pang Khon of the Akha people in the province Chiang Rai. Catimor is cultivated in a small village community at 1,500 m above sea level, where the Arabica plants thrive in the shade of fruit and forest trees. Coffee from Thailand is best known for its much higher proportion of Robusta beans grown, which comes from the south of the country and is intended for the mass market. Arabica accounts for only a very small part of the country's production, which is mainly cultivated in the mountainous regions of the north. Coffee cultivation in Thailand dates back to an initiative by the government in the early 1970s to create a new source of income for former opium farmers. With the support of the Thai royal family and the UN, coffee was finally made marketable and the cultivation of coffee greatly improved the infrastructure and quality of life of the people. The coffee plants grow in small cultivation units in the semi-shade of trees, which protect against erosion and ensure an exchange of nutrients between soil and surface. Extensive agriculture and the use of chemicals is prohibited by the national forestry authority in order to ensure the conservation of the region's natural resources. Tasting notes: medium-bodied, gingerbread and plums in the nose, dense nougat on the palate, long and dry finish.
