The Mathias family's coffee and tea plantation has been demanding the highest standards of quality and working conditions on their estate for four generations. Peter Mathias is very passionate about his coffee and supports us in the selection of fields, varieties and drying methods so that we can produce and import exclusive green coffees together with him. "Peter Uncle", as friends call him, grows Arabica and Robusta coffees, mainly tea and, as by-products, pepper and cardamom. All coffee cherries are de-pulped/peeled on the plantation immediately after harvesting. Our Arabica batches must ferment 12 - 18 hours, the Robusta beans 24 - 36 hours in spring water. Afterwards, parchment is sun-dried on drying tables. Especially the two to three month maturing in hardwood silos gives the coffee a full, low acid body. Of the coffees harvested on Kelagur Estate, we appreciate the sophisticated Arabica varieties SLN 9 and SLN6 and the outstanding and very soft Robusta. These are extremely fine and an important component in spicy, low-acid espresso specialities.
