BONGA BONGA is wild rainforest coffee from the original home of coffee in Kaffa, southwest of Ethiopia, and forms the millennia-old origin of all those coffee varieties that conquered the world in the last 1500 years. This unique speciality, the original variety "Coffea arabica", grows in the remaining 3% rainforest (2000 square kilometres) of Ethiopia at altitudes of 1200 to 1500 metres and reaches heights of up to 8 metres. It is one of the most important genetic reserves on earth and thus invaluable breeding material in the event that diseases or pests destroy the large coffee plantations. A botanical treasure of immeasurable value! Coffee beans are traditionally picked and sorted by hand by small farmers. The livelihoods of small farmers and their families will be improved in the long term and at the same time their self-interest in preserving the small remnant of rainforest areas will be aroused by purchase security and reasonable prices that exceed the world market price many times over, as well as infastructural measures on the spot. Because wild coffee in the forest is adapted to its natural location and does not require artificial fertiliser, it produces only low yields. This way, an aroma is concentrated in the beans that no other coffee can ever achieve. Its taste is fine, floral and fruity, with a mild acidity and an exciting hint of slight bitterness. What makes BONGA BONGA particularly interesting for gourmets is its "terroir", as wine growers would say. Even forest areas, which are only a few kilometres apart, produce coffees with very individual flavours. It goes without saying that the BONGA BONGA is roasted slowly with special care to preserve the unique character of this pure forest coffee.
