How should I describe this coffee? - Wonderfully aromatic, fruity, very balanced, wild, powerful? I think a little anecdote comes closest to this unique, complex coffee: During a trip in Africa I took a coffee break at the roadside. The bar consisted of few, meager boards that were held together by even fewer rusty nails as if by a miracle. In response to my skeptical question whether there would also be coffee here, the landlord answered in the affirmative and immediately started to prepare it. He started a small fire next to the bar to boil water in a cheap, old aluminum pan. Meanwhile, he prepared the filter; with African toilet paper of inferior quality, which is why he took several layers, he lined a washed out can, in the bottom of which some holes had been cut. Fascinated I watched his performance! With a mortar he crushed the coffee beans and filled the tin can. After a good while (about 1 hour) he poured over the coffee with great care and concentration and served me a black plastic cup of coffee with a friendly smile and pride. And lo and behold; all the adverse circumstances do not succeed in bringing this excellent coffee to its knees. It tasted delicious!
