The original home of coffee is Ethiopia and according to tradition it was monks who used the invigorating effect of coffee in the 9th century to stay awake longer during the nocturnal prayers. Our coffee comes from the southwestern region of Yirgacheffe and grows there at an altitude of 1,300 to 2,000 metres and at average daytime temperatures of 15-20°C. The coffee plants are located under shady trees and can thus develop the aroma in the coffee cherries very gently without too much sunlight. In combination with our traditional drum roasting, the result is a coffee with a balanced fullness, floral notes reminiscent of Darjeeling tea, little acidity and light chocolaty spice.
